Police make drug drive arrest after pregnant mum's car crashed into

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of drug driving after a car smashed into a pregnant mum's vehicle.

Merseyside Police were called to Marian Square at 2.55pm on Tuesday, January 24, following reports of a crash on the road. Once officers arrived at the scene they found three vehicles, a red Ford Focus, a white people carrier and an orange Citroen C3 had collided.

Police requested assistance from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and two fire engines and a search and rescue team arrived at 3.05pm. All three vehicles were on four wheels when firefighters arrived at the scene and they got to work straight away preparing to remove people from the Focus and people carrier.

All casualties were conscious and breathing when emergency services attended and were removed from the vehicles. The driver of the people carrier was taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service with a none life-threatening injury to his back.

The three other casualties, a pregnant mum, her child and partner, were not believed to be seriously injured. Marian Square was closed in one direction while police waited for vehicles to be recovered.

Merseyside Police confirmed the driver of the people carrier remains in hospital with his back injury. A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and has been released under investigation.
