Police make arrests after two men slashed with blades in 'targeted attack'

Two men have been arrested after two men were slashed with knives during a 'targeted attack' in Bootle.

Police were called out to Litherland Road at around  4.55pm yesterday afternoon following reports of a disturbance.  Two men, in their 20s and 30s, were taken to hospital with slash wounds. The injuries were said to be non-life-threatening.

Following enquiries, two men from Bootle were arrested in the early hours of this morning.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of (S18)  wounding with intent and possession with intent to supply Class B drugs. A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both men have been taken to police stations for questioning.

Extra patrols remain in the area today to offer further reassurance and to speak to the community.

Chief Inspector Phil Thompson said to the ECHO: "We have made two quick arrests in connection with this violence, but still want to hear from anyone in the community who has yet to come forward, and we can keep taking quick, positive action."

The investigation continues and anyone with information can contact @MerPolCC, call 101 with reference 764 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
