Police make arrest after man with a knife 'made threats to officers' during all-night operation

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man following an all-night operation during which officers were threatened with a knife.

Officers from Gwent Police attended an address in Priory Court, Cwmcarn near Risca to carry out enquiries in connection with a criminal damage investigation at around 5.30pm on Monday.

Armed officers attended the scene throughout Monday night and into Tuesday morning after a man at the address armed with a knife made threats towards the attending officers.

A 27-year-old man from Cwmcarn was arrested for criminal damage and affray yesterday and remains in police custody.

No injuries occurred during the incident.

A spokesperson from Gwent Police said: "Officers attended at an address in Priory Court, Cwmcarn, to carry out enquiries in connection with a criminal damage investigation at around 5.30pm on Monday, August 10.

"A man at the address was in possession of bladed articles and had made threats towards the attending officers.

"Armed officers and specially trained officers attended the address throughout the night to ensure the safety of the male and the wider public.

"Following a peaceful resolution, a 27-year-old man from Cwmcarn was arrested for criminal damage and affray and remains in police custody.

"No injuries had been sustained to any person at the scene.

"We would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding throughout this incident."
