Police make arrest after five-hour rooftop stand-off with man

Police have made an arrest after a five-hour rooftop stand-off with a man.

Witnesses say he was seen throwing slates onto the street below.

Pictures from the scene show a man stood on the roof of a house.

Police say they received reports a man had climbed onto a roof on Tennyson Street in Deeplish, Rochdale at 9am on Thursday.

He was safely escorted down at 2pm.

A 39-year-man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage.

He remains in custody.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Shortly after 9am on September 10, officers attended an address where a man was on a roof of an address on Tennyson Street in Rochdale.

"He was safely escorted down and arrested on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage.

"He remains in custody."
