Police make appeal for info after woman dies in fatal crash on A9

Police are appealing for information over a fatal crash on the A9 on Friday that claimed the life of a 69-year-old woman.

The crash, near Dunkeld in Perthshire, happened at around 12.05pm. It involved a dark grey Hyundai i10, a white Volkswagen Golf and a white Ford Transit van.

The 69-year-old female driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene while her 76-year-old female passenger sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee by air ambulance.

Both the driver of the Golf, a 71-year-old man, and his 53-year-old female passenger were taken to Ninewells by ambulance. The driver of the van was not injured.

Following the smash, police have issued an appeal for eyewitnesses, dashcam footage and any further information that could help them with their inquiries. Investigators closed the road for seven hours while examining the scene, and removed the cordon at around 7.30pm.

Sergeant Kevin Wilkie, of Perth Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the woman who has died and we are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have information that could help with our investigation to get in touch.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who was travelling on the A9 around the time of the crash and may have seen the Hyundai or have dash-cam footage which could be of assistance to our enquiry.”

Anyone who can assist officers should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1257 of Friday, 16 September, 2022.

The tragic crash was followed by another fatal incident on the A9 further north at around 7.45pm. Emergency services rushed to the A9 at Slochd, 17 miles south of Inverness, following a crash involving a silver Audi A4 and a white Volvo coach.

The 73-year-old woman driving the Audi was pronounced dead at the scene while eight bus passengers were taken to Raigmore Hospital.
