Police looking for this man in connection with 'unbelievably loud rave' in Stokes Croft

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they are looking for after hundreds of "tightly packed" revellers danced in a Stokes Croft street party.

It's believed 1,000 people gathered for the 'unbelievably loud rave' on Nine Tree Hill from on (June 20).

Following the party, Avon and Somerset Police apologised for their handling of 'the noise and nuisance caused by unlicensed music event'.

Today (Monday, July 6), officers have issued an image of a man they'd like to trace in connection with the investigation.

It was taken on Sydenham Road at 3.43pm on Saturday 20 June.

The man is described as white, slim, with long-brown hair in dreadlocks and he has a beard and moustache. He was wearing a blue and yellow checked shirt, a camouflage-style hat and trousers and brown boots.

What residents said about the rave

One resident tweeted: "“Possibly the very worst thing you can do – people are going die from this stupidity.”

One man told Bristol Live : “I cycled along Stokes Croft at about 5.30pm and heard loud music being played further down the road.

“I thought it was someone's car at first but then discovered it was actually coming from a sound system that had been set up on Nine Tree Hill.

It was a professional setup with a DJ playing dub and an MC, with about 20 people dancing in front of the decks and a few sat down on a nearby patch of grass enjoying the music."

Why police apologised

A force spokesperson said: "Wherever possible, we seek to shut down unlicensed events as they’re being set up or as soon afterwards as we can, because once large numbers have gathered public safety risks can make them harder to shut down.

"On this occasion we did have a chance to stop the Stokes Croft event before it got under way and we missed that opportunity. We want to apologise to all the people disrupted as a result."

If you know who in the CCTV is, call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5220137621.
