Police lockdown busy Edinburgh road after horror smash between cyclist and lorry

A busy Edinburgh suburb has been locked down by police after a serious road crash involving a cyclist and a lorry.

Emergency services raced to the scene near Portobello High Street at around 2.45pm on Monday after the alarm was raised.

Several surrounding streets have been closed off by police with metal barriers put in place to stop traffic attempting to pass through the area, Edinburgh Live reports.

It is not known if anyone has been injured during the serious collision but the road remained closed almost two hours later.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a serious collision involving a lorry and a cyclist near Portobello High Street, Edinburgh, around 2.45pm on Monday, 2 November.

"Local diversions are in place and officers remain at the scene."

Motorists are being warned to expect lengthy delays in the area while police remain at the scene.
