High winds rip roofs of Scots flats and wrecks parked cars as police lock down street

Emergency services are currently in attendance after strong gusts of winds ripped the ‘roof’ off a block of Edinburgh flats.

It is understood that at least two vehicles on Iona Street have been hit by the building material which came from a property on the nearby Leith Walk.

One eye witness told how Police Scotland officers and fire crews are still trying to determine exactly how many flats are affected.
