Police lock down Scots canal amid reports of 'vehicle in the water'

A motor in a canal has sparked a huge emergency response in Stirlingshire.

Crews were called to the section of water at Lock 16 of the Forth and Clyde Canal just off Union Road in Camelon, Falkirk on Wednesday.

The alarm was raised shortly after 4pm.

Photos from the scene show scores of cops, paramedics and firefighters, as well as a water rescue unit, in attendance.

Onlookers were spotted watching from the canal bank as two officers took to the water in a dinghy to carry out searches.

The area, close to local boozer, The Union Inn, has been sealed off to members of the public.

Three ambulances, two police motors and several officers can be seen patrolling the cordon.

Rescue teams are currently searching the water.

Officers revealed that they responded to reports of a 'vehicle in the water'.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Emergency services are in attendance following a report of a vehicle in the water at Lock 16 in Camelon.

"Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Ambulance Service have also been contacted for comment.
