Police lock down Springburn street with forensics at scene

Police have locked down a street in Springburn with forensics spotted at the scene.

Hawthorn Street in the north of Glasgow is currently closed off, while a picture posted on social media shows emergency services outside a newsagents on the street.

The picture was posted on the No1seem2care community Facebook page late last night with the comment: "Police have blocked Hawthorn St off and forensic officers can be seen at the location.

"We don't know if this is a separate incident from earlier today, or if the earlier incident has become a more serious investigation."

Police had locked down the same street earlier in the day in what appears to have been a separate incident, as alluded to in the comment.

Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management team (TRAFFCOM) this morning advised: "Hawthorn Street is currently closed to all traffic between Fernbank Street and Memel Street due to an ongoing police incident.

"Road users are advised to seek an alternate route and further bulletins will be issued when more information becomes available."

Glasgow Live have contacted Police Scotland for comment.

A spokesperson said on yesterday afternoon's incident: "Police were called around 3.50pm on Tuesday, 24 March, 2020, following reports of a disturbance on Elmvale Street, Glasgow.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
