Police lock down Fernhill street after assault sees man rushed to hospital

Police have locked down a street in Fernhill, Rutherglen after a man was hospitalised following an assault.

The incident is understood to have taken place shortly before 2pm this afternoon on Shieldaig Drive.

A 36-year-old man was taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Police have confirmed they have closed off the road with detectives currently on the scene.

“Around 1.55pm on Saturday, 16 May, police were called to a report of a man assaulted on Shieldaig Drive at Fernhill Road.

"Officers attended and a 36 year-old man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"The road has been closed and detectives are currently carrying out enquiries in the local area.”
