Police have swarmed to a busy city centre street in a morning raid on a property in the Capital amid reports of a 'serious assault'.
Six vehicles carrying plain clothes and uniformed officers responded to an incident on Leith Street shortly after 10:45am on Tuesday morning, with passers-by being hurried from the area just hours after an armed response to a separate incident on Elm Row.
A flat positioned above a shop on the bustling thoroughfare opposite the St James Quarter development appeared to be at the centre of officers attention, with a cordon erected around the property.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing several workers at the billion-pound project across the road being interviewed as part of the probe, with officers remaining tight-lipped on the nature of their inquiries.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are currently conducting enquiries into a reported serious assault which happened in the Leith Street area of Edinburgh at around 10:45am on Wednesday, 23 June.
"A man has been taken to hospital and enquiries remain ongoing.”
It comes just hours after armed officers carried out an early morning operation less than half a mile away during a 'pre-planned' raid on a home at Elm Row.
Part of Brunswick Street was shut off during the investigation, which focused on a property in the street.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers in Edinburgh carried out a pre-planned firearms operation around 6am at a property on Elm Row in connection with an ongoing investigation. Enquires remain ongoing.”
