Police launch search for boy, 13, missing off East Yorkshire coast

  • An urgent police search is underway for a 13-year-old boy who got into difficulty while swimming off the coast of Hornsea, East Yorkshire , on Tuesday evening.
  • Emergency services, including HM Coastguard , Yorkshire Ambulance Service , Humberside Fire and Rescue, and Humberside Police , were deployed to the South Promenade after reports around 6pm.
  • The extensive search and rescue operation involves specialist Police Search Advisors, a marine unit, and drone pilots to locate the missing boy.
  • Chief Superintendent Phil Booker has urged the public to avoid the search area to allow emergency services to work efficiently and safely, and to refrain from speculating on the incident.
  • This incident follows a recent death of a 14-year-old boy in London and warnings from the Royal Life Saving Society about the dangers of open water during warm weather.
