Police launch search after fears that boy, 16, may have fallen into river

Police have launched a search after reports that a 16-year-old boy may have fallen into a river.

Officers fear the boy may have fallen into the River Weaver near Frodsham, in Cheshire.

The A56 near the Sutton Weaver swing bridge has been closed while the search continues.

Cheshire Police, the fire service and paramedics are on the scene with a helicopter and dog team reported in the area.

Cheshire Police said: "At around 3.50pm today (Monday 19 July) police received reports that a 16-year-old boy may have fallen into the River Weaver near Frodsham.

"Police, fire and ambulance are currently at the scene and searches are ongoing.

"The A56 is currently closed in both directions and drivers are advised to avoid the area.

"Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1041072."

People are being asked to avoid the area as the search continues.
