Police launch Rangers probe as they investigate allegations of sectarian singing from players

Police Scotland have revealed they are investigating allegations Rangers players sang sectarian lyrics to a song during their title celebrations.

The Ibrox side lifted the Premiership trophy on Saturday and the players gathered inside the stadium and were filmed singing Neil Diamond hit 'Sweet Caroline'.

And allegations were made to suggest the players sang anti-Catholic lyrics as an add-on to the song.

Now Police Scotland have confirmed they are looking into the matter and are investigating Rangers and their players after the incident.

A statement said: “We are aware of a video circulating on social media apparently showing Rangers players using sectarian language while celebrating on Saturday.

“We are assessing its contents and will liaise with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service as part of our enquiries."

The video shows the Rangers team dancing and singing along to a song inside a room at Ibrox with many of the players on chairs and tables.

The title celebrations were hit with controversy when supporters made their way to George Square and sections of the crowd became involved in fighting with the police and each other.
