Scots care home at centre of police probe over alleged mistreatment of residents

Senior members of staff at a Scots care home are at the centre of a police investigation for allegedly mistreating residents.

Springvale Care Home in Lennoxtown, near Glasgow, hit the headlines recently after the deaths of nine residents from coronavirus.

"But it is understood the police probe has nothing to do with the outbreak.

Members of the management team at the home have been ordered to stay away while the investigation is carried out.

One woman, whose sister-in-law is in the home, said: “We got a letter from police saying there was an investigation which was followed by another letter and a phone call.

"They were asking us to get in touch if we had any concerns about my husband’s sister but she’s fine.

"I understand it concerns dementia patients.”

The home told relatives in an email: “We have been made aware of some anonymous concerns made with regards to certain members of the management team at Springvale.

"Naturally, the home is working closely with all regulatory bodies, including the Care Inspectorate and Police Scotland, to hopefully bring this to a swift conclusion.”

Police Scotland said: "We can confirm we are investigating reports of potential mistreatment of both current and previous residents at Springvale Care Home in Lennoxtown.

"Inquiries are at an early stage."
