Police launch probe into death of toddler in Dundee after tot took unwell at home

Police Scotland have launched an investigation into the death of a three-year-old boy in Dundee.

Officers sealed off an address in the Menzieshill area of the city as they carried out door-to-door enquiries.

A spokesman revealed the toddler took unwell at an address in Orleans Place on Thursday evening.

He was taken to Ninewells Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A source close to the probe said officers do not think the death is linked to the Coronavirus outbreak.

One local, who declined to be named, said plain clothed police were at the scene yesterday.

He told the local Evening News: “We are stunned to hear what had happened. Police have been standing guard at the house within the block.

“Officers have been coming and going but I’ve certainly seen them here since Friday.”

The resident claimed the boy was a pupil at nearby St Ninian’s nursery and added:

“The kids were told about what happened. They were all devastated.

“Its been a horrible thing to hear and I can’t begin to think what that family are going through.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We received a report of a three-year-old boy who was unwell at an address on Orleans Place, Dundee, around 11.20pm on Thursday, 12 March, 2020.

“The boy was taken to Ninewells Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”
