Police launch probe in Blantyre as man dies following reports of firearm being discharged

A 26-year-old man has died following what police believe to be a targeted attack in Blantyre last night.

Officers raced to the scene at Caithness Street, Blantyre, following reports of a firearm being discharged.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 5pm on Monday, August 17, 2020, police were called to a report of a disturbance outside an address in Caithness Street, Blantyre, in which it was alleged that a firearm had been discharged.

“A 26-year-old man was injured during the incident and was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wishaw, where he died a short time later.

“A post-mortem will take place to establish the exact cause of his death which at this time police are treating as suspicious and enquiries are continuing.”

Officers remain in the area today (Tuesday) to provide public reassurance. 

The spokesperson continued: “Any information about the incident can be passed to officers at the scene or via 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
