Police launch probe after caravan was torched in the street

Police have launched an investigation after fire-bugs torched a caravan yesterday.

Police were called to Auchenlodment Road in Johnstone around 6.40pm after reports of a vehicle on fire.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and found the vehicle in the middle of the road.

The caravan was badly burnt during the blaze.

Police confirmed no-one was injured during the incident, which is being treated as wilful fire-raising.

CID are leading the enquiry at this time and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a caravan on fire in Auchenlodment Road, Johnstone, around 6.40pm on Monday, October 10.

“There were no reports of any injuries.

“Enquiries into the fire, which is being treated as deliberate, are ongoing.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101 or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111
