Police launch probe after car deliberately set on fire in residential Lanarkshire street

Police have launched an appeal after a car was set ablaze in a residential street in Lanarkshire.

A Ford Fiesta was set alight around 11.40pm on Johnstone Crescent in Uddingston on Monday, March 1.

Detectives say the fire was deliberate and say the driver of another car is understood to have approached the vehicle and started the fire before leaving the scene.

The Scottish Fire are Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire and thankfully nobody was injured during the incident.

Detective Constable Murray McMillan, of Lanarkshire CID, said: "Enquiries into the fire are ongoing and our enquiries so far have established that a black VW Tiguan was seen approaching the area shortly before.

“An individual got out of the car, poured an accelerant on the fiesta and set it on fire before leaving the scene.

"I am keen to speak to anyone who saw a black WV Tiguan or anybody acting suspiciously in the area at the time. Information can be provided to police on 101, quoting reference number 4175 of 1 March, or anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
