Police launch probe after break-ins at charity shop and cafe in Shawlands

Police are investigating break-ins at a coffee shop and charity shop in the southside.

Kilmurry & Co and the Marie Curie shop on Kilmarnock Road were targeted by thieves in the early hours of this morning.

A quantity of cash was stolen during the raid at the popular cafe at around 5:00am, police confirmed.

A volunteer from Marie Curie told Glasgow Live how thieves kicked in their front door and stole around £40 from a charity tin before discarding it across the street.

The woman, who asked not to be named, added: "We're just disgusted that someone would do that to a charity. That was the worst part. But no one was hurt and the shop wasn't otherwise disturbed."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "At around 5:15am, police were called to a report of a break-in at a coffee shop in Kilmarnock Road, when a quantity of cash was taken.

"We were also made aware of a break-in at the charity shop at around 7:35am.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Kilmurry & Co was reached for comment.
