Police launch probe after Aberdeen school building goes up in flames for second time

Police have launched a probe after a former school in Aberdeen went up in flames.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the blaze at the Cordyce School building on Riverview Drive at 9.50pm on Friday July 31.

Thankfully there were no injuries in the fire.

It is the second time the disused school has caught fire, after four teenagers were held by cops over a blaze at the site in 2017.

Officers have closed down the road between Balloch Way and Todlaw Walk as they remain on site today.

Detective Constable Stuart Hache, of Aberdeen CID, said: “The fire is ongoing but thankfully no one has been injured.

“Enquiries into the cause of the fire are underway and there will be a continued police presence in the area.

“Riverview Drive is currently closed between Balloch Way and Todlaw Walk and the public are asked to avoid the area until further notice.

“Anyone who has any information, please contact us on 101, quoting incident number 4348 of 31 July, or anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
