Police launch probe after a number of cars and property torched in Lanarkshire street

Police are appealing for information after a series of fire-raising incidents in Hamilton.

Vehicles and property have been damaged in the incidents on Reid Street and Sneddon Terrace in the Burnbank area of the town.

The initial incident was reported at Reid Street shortly after 8pm on Wednesday, November 10, when a parked car was set on fire and destroyed.

A further car was found on fire at Reid Street about 9am on Thursday, December 23, with another incident again reported at around 7.25am on Sunday, January 2, when a car and nearby fence were set ablaze.

The following day, on Monday, January 3, another vehicle was reported to be on fire at Sneddon Terrace around 10.35am.

Detective Inspector Gordon Sneddon told Lanarkshire Live: "We were keeping an open mind about links between each of the incidents, though there are similarities about each of the fires.

"We would urge anyone who may have information about the incidents, or who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage to get in touch.

"We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a small, silver hatchback style car in the area over the past few weeks.

"Officers will also be carrying out regular patrols of the area to provide reassurance and anyone with concerns or information is encouraged to speak directly to an officer."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.

Information can also be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
