A new drive aimed at increasing public confidence in the police and other agencies among residents in Craigneuk has been unveiled.
North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) along with Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS) have pledged carry on with their joint approach in making Craigneuk a safer place to live.
Each home was given a leaflet with information on Crimestoppers which keeps your anonymity when reporting a crime.
Area Inspector Alan Mulholland told Lanarkshire Live : “We want to reassure the community in Craigneuk that we are here to help, support and respond to incidents as they happen.
“It is clear to us that some people are reluctant to tell us about some of the criminal activity and, as such, we have been working in partnership with Crimestoppers to address this.
“Crimestoppers is a charity, completely separate from the police, and any information given is in complete confidence and is anonymous, I can’t stress this enough.
“We have officers and partners from NLC Community Regeneration Services and the antisocial investigators out and about to deliver the leaflets.
“They are there to chat with people on their feelings about some of the antisocial behaviour in the area.
“Please talk to us, call us on 101 or make use of the anonymous service that Crimestoppers operate by calling 0800 555 111.
“I want local people to be re-assured I am well aware of the problems being faced in the area and, as the Area Inspector, I am focussed on making things better for local people.”
Earlier this month, police and the council carried out a day of action providing reassurance to tenants and residents that the council and partners have a zero tolerance approach towards those engaging in antisocial behaviour.
Stephen Llewellyn from NLC said: “Antisocial behaviour that makes the lives of others miserable is not acceptable in any shape or form.
“We want to send a clear message to those involved that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated within our communities.
“Working closely with our partners in the Police, we will pursue action against anyone involved in unacceptable behaviour.
"We will use all the powers at our disposal to gather and share intelligence to disrupt and detect those involved.”
