Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the discovery of two bodies in the back garden of a house in Hull.
Daniel Hatfield, 52, and Matthew Higgins, 49, appeared to have been attacked days before their bodies were found on Friday.
A neighbour described how she found the bodies when she looked over the garden wall and saw a leg sticking out from under a duvet. Dina Kacare, 39, told the Hull Daily Mail: “I was cleaning my garden with my friend when I noticed that I could see into my neighbour’s garden, next door. A few bricks had fallen off the wall so we started comparing how clean the garden was compared to mine.”
Two women aged 27 and 36, as well as a 38-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the deaths in May Street, two miles north of Hull city centre.
Postmortem examinations found that Hatfield and Higgins both died from “significant multiple injuries”.
Det Supt Matt Hutchinson, of Humberside police’s major crime unit, said: “The two victims in this case died of sustained serious injuries and police are carrying out a large number of enquiries to establish when they were killed and identify the people responsible.
“We are supporting the victims’ families and keeping them informed about developments in the case and what we are doing to identify those responsible. We have made three arrests in connection with the murders, however we still need the public’s help in piecing together the full circumstance of the men’s deaths.
“I would therefore urge anyone with information about the movements of Daniel Hatfield and Matthew Higgins between Monday 18 April and Friday 22 April to call the investigation team.
“We also want to speak to people who know anything about the murder or have information about people attending or leaving 7 May Street in the week prior to the men being discovered.”
