Police launch manhunt after pensioner stabbed to death in Devon

A manhunt is underway after a man in his 70s was stabbed to death in a town in Devon.

The pensioner was knifed several times at a home in Kingsteignton in Devon on Sunday night.

He was taken to Torbay hospital but was pronounced dead. No-one else was injured.

Detective Chief Inspector Roy Linden, from Devon and Cornwall Police, said a major investigation had been launched and the suspected killer is still at large.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 9.20pm on Sunday 9 June following reports that a man had received multiple stab wounds at a property on Chockland Road, Kingsteignton.

"The victim, a man in his 70s, was taken to Torbay hospital where he was later pronounced deceased; no one else was harmed during this incident.

"Following this, the police have launched a murder enquiry and are appealing for witnesses."

Detective Chief Inspector Roy Linden, Deputy Head of Major Crime said: "We have launched a major investigation following the death of a local man last night. We hope to be in a position to issue further details surrounding this incident to the public, shortly.

"We hope that the public will understand that this is a rapidly evolving situation, and at this time, the suspect remains outstanding. Additional resources are being used from across Devon and Cornwall with the priority of identifying those responsible, and as a result the residents of Kingsteignton can expect to see an increased police presence in the area."

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said that police officers have given no information about what happened.

He said: "It's just awful. We're not just neighbours, we're all friends down here. There's only a few houses in this little close. It's only a tiny road but we know nothing."
