Police launch investigation into arson attack at house in Longsight

Police are appealing for witnesses after a house was deliberately torched in Longsight.

Fire crews were called to reports of a blaze at a detached house on New Bank Street.

A woman managed to escape from the property before firefighters arrived.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment.

The fire was located in a first floor bedroom of the house.

Greater Manchester Police are treating the fire as an arson attack.

The fire broke out just after 4pm on Thursday, August 23.

A large police presence and forensic investigators could be seen searching the property for clues on Thursday evening.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with further information to get in touch.

A spokeswoman for GMP said: "It was just after 4pm we were called by the fire service to a house on New Bank Street.

"We have attended and a woman was treated at the scene by paramedics. She was not seriously injured.

"It is being treated as arson. Enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for witnesses."
