Police launch investigation and search tram lines after gunman fires shots in Wythenshawe

A main road has been cordoned off this evening after a gun shot was fired.

Brownley Road in Wythenshawe has been taped off as officers investigate the incident.

Residents have reported seeing police searching the tram lines adjacent to the road with some reporting they heard shots around 7.30pm.

Police were called just after this and have confirmed shots were fired in the area.

No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.

A GMP spokesman said: "At around 7.41pm this evening (13 January 2022) police were called to a report of a potential firearm discharge on Brownley Road, Manchester.

"Officers attended and have established that a firearm was discharged in the area.

"No one was injured. No arrests have been made.

"An investigation has been launched and a cordon is currently in place while enquiries are carried out."
