Police hunt for group of five goes on after teen attacked and robbed in EK

Police in East Kilbride have launched an investigation after a teenager was attacked by five youths and robbed at the weekend.

The incident happened on Friday evening in the Westwood/Murray area, with a source saying the 16-year-old was “badly shaken”.

Now officers are asking for help from anyone who may have been in the area or seen anything at that time.

The incident happened shortly after 10pm on November 20 in the Penfold Crescent area as the boy walked in the direction of Quebec Drive.

Police say he was assaulted by a group consisting of four males and one female and the rucksack he was wearing was stolen from him. This contained personal belongings which have not yet been traced.

Enquiries are ongoing (Handout)

Inspector Stephen McGovern told the East Kilbride News on Tuesday that enquiries continued.

He said: “Officers have been at the location carrying out door to door enquiries and speaking to people.

“We are also looking to see if footage that could help us has possibly been captured – if anyone nearby had ‘Ring’ doorbells which capture images or alike.”

The teen’s injuries are said not to be serious and he did not require hospital treatment, but Inspector McGovern confirmed he had been left with facial injuries.

The attackers are all thought to be in their late teens, were wearing dark coloured clothing, with one of his male attackers wearing a red hooded tracksuit and black coloured jacket.

Detective Constable Gary Milligan told us: “We know this happened when the area was dark, however, it did take place in a residential street and we are asking anyone who saw or heard anything connected to the incident to come forward.

“The teenager was thankfully not seriously injured, but the group who attacked him used a level of violence that is wholly unacceptable.

“We would ask anyone who may have come across the rucksack discarded since, or who knows who may be responsible for this robbery, to come forward.”

Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact police on 101.

That includes anyone with private CCTV or doorbell recordings that could be checked for any footage of the incident.

Information can also be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
