Police launch investigation after stolen van sheds load of eggs in Glasgow's west end

Police have launched an investigation after confirming a van that shed its load of eggs on a west end street had been stolen.

Earlier today, we reported on the bizarre sight of hundreds of eggs having been strewn across the road by the roundabout at Queen Margaret Drive.

West end residents were left baffled as to what happened and it's since transpired that the van carrying the eggs was stolen.

Police say they were alerted at around 10.45am this morning and the vehicle was located in Hamiltonhill Gardens in the north of Glasgow shortly afterwards.

Meanwhile, the council have subsequently cleaned up the mess on Queen Margaret Drive after neighbours had complained it was 'starting to smell'.

A Police Scotland spokesperson advised: "Around 10.45am on Thursday, 27 May, we received a report that a white van had been stolen on Queen Margaret Drive, Glasgow, and that the vehicle had shed its load as it made off.

"It was traced in Hamiltonhill Gardens shortly after.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the incident."
