Police launch investigation after 'human bone' found near scout hut in Prestwich

Police have launched an investigation after a 'human bone' was found near a scout hut in Prestwich .

Officers were called to Derby Street shortly before 8.20pm on Friday, August 2, to reports that a suspected human bone had been found.

The bone, which was thought to be a femur, is believed to have be found on a patch of grass next to a building used by the local scouts group.

It is not yet known who made the shocking discovery.

A scene remains in place this morning while forensic work is carried out to establish the origin of the bone.

Police say there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called shortly before 8.20pm on Friday 2 August 2019 to a report that a suspected human femur bone had been found on land off Derby Street, Prestwich.

"A scene remains in place on Derby Street while forensic work is carried out to establish the origin of the bone.

"Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing but, at this time, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
