The fire is understood to have broken out inside a building on the site but it was empty at the time.

Inspector Stephen McGovern from East Kilbride Police Office told the East Kilbride News: "The fire service received a report of an incident in a building at a car wash on the Queensway.

"The fire was quickly extinguished and our officers also attended.

"CID are currently investigating to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire. I would encourage anyone who was in the vicinity last night at around 11pm and may have witnessed anything suspicious to call us on 101 quoting reference 4135 of February 8."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.58pm on Monday, February 8 to reports of a commercial property on fire at Queensway North, East Kilbride.

“Operations control mobilised two appliances to the scene where a derelict garage was on fire.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire and left after ensuring the area was made safe.

“There were no reported casualties.”
