Two young children were taken to hospital after being bitten by a pair of Jack Russells.

Police have launched an investigation after the siblings, aged two and four, were attacked by the dogs in Whaley Bridge.

The children were taken to hospital for a check-up after suffering bruising to their bodies.

The attack took place at about 11am on Monday, January 27, on the bridge that leads from Wheatsheaf Road to Whaley Bridge Memorial Park, close to the dam at Toddbrook reservoir.

Police are now trying to trace the dogs' owner, described as a white woman in her 60s wearing a 'bright orange coat'.

The dogs are described as 'white with brown patches'.

In a statement Derbyshire police said: " We are investigating reports that two young children have been bitten by a pair of dogs in Whaley Bridge.
