Police launch internal probe after cop car crashes into another vehicle

Greater Manchester Police has launched a professional standards probe after a police car crashed into another vehicle in south Manchester, leaving a man in hospital.

The crash happened just after 2am this morning on Princess Road at the junction with Moss Lane East.

A police vehicle was responding to an emergency incident at the time, a spokesperson for the force said.

It crashed into another vehicle and emergency services were called to the scene.

A man, aged 64, was taken to hospital with head and arm injuries.

His injuries are not believed to be serious, police said.

The incident has now been referred to GMP's Professional Standards Branch.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At just after 2am on Wednesday 14 July, it was reported that a police vehicle responding to an emergency incident, had collided with another vehicle on Princess Road in Manchester.

"Emergency services attended, and a 64 year old man was taken to hospital with injuries to his head and arm.

"They're not believed to be serious.

"Inquiries are on-going, and in line with normal procedure, the incident has been referred to the Professional Standards Branch."

In a tweet posted at around 2.30am this morning, TfGM said: "Due to a police incident, the junction of Princess Road and Moss Lane East is blocked.

"Local Stagecoach Greater Manchester services may be affected in the morning.

"Use an alternative route. Delays expected in the area."

The road was reopened at around 4am.
