Police have launched a crackdown on illegal guns in Tasmania's north after a "concerning" spate of shootings.
The new task force has been set up in Launceston, it was announced on Friday.
"Firearms in the wrong hands are dangerous and are of utmost concern to police," Commander Stuart Wilkinson said.
"While it's normal that crime trends fluctuate from time to time, over the past month, there has been a concerning number of incidents involving firearms."
Cmdr Wilkinson said the vast majority of recent incidents involved people known to police and each other.
Although no one had been seriously injured, police were taking the shootings "extremely seriously", he said.
On Wednesday, police charged a 35-year-old Devonport man who allegedly shot towards a car and was later found inside a garden shed.
A sawn-off .410 shotgun and a small amount of cannabis and methamphetamine was allegedly found in the shed.
Among other recent incidents, a house in Launceston was damaged when a shot was fired into the air on the night of April 10.
A man, 30, is facing charges after firing a homemade gun in suburban Launceston on April 2 following an "altercation".
Police also investigated two gunshots that damaged an unoccupied Subaru and bus in the suburb of Youngtown during the Easter weekend.
"We know that there are people out there in the community who know people in possession of illegal firearms," Cmdr Wilkinson said.
"Please come forward (and) provide information so we can take these illegal firearms off the street permanently."
Additional mobile firearms amnesties, where people can hand in unregistered gun without fear of being prosecuted, are planned for the north and west.
