Police launch fresh appeal in hunt for brothers linked to brutal East Kilbride knee-capping

Police have made a fresh appeal for help in hunting down the men thought to be responsible for one of East Kilbride's most brutal attacks.

James Gillespie, 47, and his brother Barry, 43, find themselves on Scotland's 'most wanted' list and are being pursued over their roles in serious organised crime.

Police believe the Gillespies – from Rutherglen –are wanted in connection with the abduction and attempted murder of Robert Allan in 2015.

Allan was snatched from his home in Barnsley and knee-capped in a two-day torture ordeal, before being dumped at the side of the road.

He had fled Scotland over a drug debt and was found by members of the public in the Stewartfield Way area, having been shot three times.

Of the Gillespies, a police spokesman said: “They are regarded as being very dangerous and the public are warned that if they do see them, they should not be approached.

“Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on immediately."

Both brothers are wanted by Police Scotland and European Arrest Warrants are in place for them, and a police source says they are thought to be hiding out in Brazil.

The cocaine kingpins also have links with Spain, Tenerife and Portugal.

They are suspected of directing serious organised crime throughout the UK and Europe.

A Crimestoppers reward of £5000 has been made available for information leading to the arrest of each man.

Posing as property developers, James uses 'James Gardener' as a pseudonym, whilst Barry uses the name 'Eamon Fitzpatrick'.

The Gillespies were part of a group of Scots being hunted as part of a major international investigation into alleged drug trafficking, money laundering and illegal weapons.

The brothers have been accused of heading Scotland’s biggest and richest organised crime gang and were implicated in the murder of Glasgow drug dealer Martin Toner in 2004.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101. Information can be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11.
