Police launch appeal after teenager threatened by man in East Kilbride

Police in East Kilbride have launcehd an investigation after a teenager was held up in Greenhills.

The incident happened on Monday evening, with a source saying he was left “badly shaken”.

Now officers are asking for help from anyone who may have been in the area or seen anything at that time.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland told the News : “Around 5.30pm on August 3, police received a report a 16-year-old male had been threatened by a man on Stroud Road in East KIlbride.

“The youth was uninjured in the incident and no money or items were stolen.  Enquiries are ongoing.”

A sizeable police presence raised concerns from locals in the area who took to social media to find what had happened.

One woman posted on Facebook: “Does anyone know what’s happened in Greenhills at the tunnel just after Quarry Road?“

This is the third such incident this year and the second during lockdown.

A similar incident occurred in March when a 15-year-old boy was mugged in the town centre tunnels by a man wielding a weapon.

That happened in an underpass beneath the Centre roundabout, near East Kilbride Bus Station, with the perpetrator stealing a mobile phone before running off towards Churchill Avenue.

And in June, a 19-year-old male was left badly shaken after being mugged by a masked man in an early morning attack.

That happened on Shields Road, Lindsayfield, when the teen was walking alone near to the Moss Road junction – he was approached by a man wearing a blue PPE face mask.

He demanded the teenager’s phone and personal items before fleeing the scene.

Anyone with any information on any of these incidents is asked to contact police on 101.
