Police launch appeal after 'men in ski masks' break into Tesco store in Benton

An investigation has been launched after reports of a break-in at a store in Tyneside.

The burglary took place at the Tesco Express, on Benton Road, in Benton, in the early hours of Sunday.

Police were told that two men wearing ski masks were seen making off from the scene.

Residents in the area said they saw officers carrying out investigations at the site on Sunday morning and a window at the shop appeared to have been smashed.

An appeal for witnesses has now been made and anyone with information is being asked to contact Northumbria Police .

A spokesperson for the force said: "Shortly before 5.30am on November 3, police received a report of a burglary at the Tesco Express on Benton Road, Newcastle.

"It was reported that two men in ski masks and wearing cargo trousers had been seen leaving the store via a window and were carrying bottles of alcohol and a bag.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact officers via 101 and use reference number 271 03/11/19."
