Police launch appeal after man left seriously injured in Rutherglen street

A police investigation has been launched after a man was left with serious facial injuries after an assault in a Rutherglen street.

Officers are asking for help from the public following the attack near to the Greenhill Road area of the town.

The incident happened around 9pm on Tuesday night (March 9) on a footpath there, with the suspect running off In the direction of Mill Street.

The 30-year-old victim suffered serious injuries to his face and hand which required treatment at Glasgow Royal Infirmary after being struck with a bladed item.

Detective Constable Jennifer Thirtle of Cambuslang Police Station said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone who may have seen or heard a disturbance around 9pm on Tuesday evening to get in touch.

“In addition we would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anybody acting suspiciously or loitering in the area around Greenhill Road before the incident took place.

“Any information can be passed on by calling 101, quoting 3123 of 9 March, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
