Police launch appeal after Airdrie garage deliberately set on fire

Police were forced to evacuate a number of properties in Airdrie after a garage next to a house was deliberately set on fire.

The incident happened around 5am on Sunday, 25 July, when the garage on Hillrigg Avenue was set alight.

A number of nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution and the blaze was put out by the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service.

Officers are keen to speak to two men seen in the area around the time of the incident.

They are described as both being of slim build, about 5ft 9ins, one wearing high visibility clothing and the other dark clothing.

Detective Constable Katy Goldie, of Coatbridge CID, said: “Fortunately no one was injured but this was a deliberate act that could have caused harm.

“We are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious around the time of the incident to get in touch, including anyone who may have been driving in the area and has dash-cam, or anyone with private CCTV that could help with our investigation.

“If you can help please contact us via 101, quoting incident 0915 of Sunday, 25 July, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
