Police lathi-charge protesting candidates near BTSC office in Patna

PATNA: Police on Monday resorted to lathi-charge on junior engineer aspirants who staged a protest outside the Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) office at Harding Road in Patna on Monday.

The candidates were protesting over the delay in releasing the final selection list of meritorious aspirants for the post of junior engineers in Bihar government.

Over 500 aspirants gheraoed the BJP, RJD and JD(U) offices at Beerchand Patel Marg, raising anti-government slogans and demanding euthanasia.

They also raised slogans like "Result do ya iccha mrityu do (give the result or allow euthanasia)".

In view of the candidates’ protest, security has been beefed up outside the state party offices and a large number of police forces have been deployed.

An aspirant said the government had issued an advertisement for vacancy in the year 2019 for the post of Junior Engineer of BTSC.

“The examination was conducted and its result was also published but later the result was withdrawn saying that it has to be amended. This decision has directly affected the lives of the candidates waiting for the government job for the last four years,” Pramod Kumar said.

Rajesh Ranjan, another aspirant, said all the candidates, who qualified the exam were going through immense mental pressure.

“We have even requested the state government not to scrap the vacancy as our lives are dependent on this job. The result was published last year for over 6,000 posts but after two days it was withdrawn in the name of amendment. Our only request is to issue the job letter for the selected candidates without further delay,” he said.
