Police issue warning to drivers defrosting their cars after a spate of vehicle thefts in Trafford

Police have issued a warning to drivers after a number of cars were stolen while defrosting.

Officers said a number of vehicles were stolen in Trafford on Monday morning (December 2) after motorists left their car unattended.

Thieves are targeting cars that have been left with their engines running.

In a post on the GMP Trafford South Facebook, a spokesperson said: "Good Morning, it's a cold start to today, please leave extra time to defrost your vehicles but please don't leave it unattended.

"We've already had a number of vehicles stolen this morning after drivers have left the engine running while it is left to defrost."

The Highway Code states that parked vehicles should not be left unattended while their engines are running on a public road.

Motorists caught doing this could be hit with a fine.

Defrosting your vehicle and leaving it unattended on your driveway isn't an offence, but could attract thieves.
