Police issue warning over Snapchat update which allows people to see your house number and exact address

South Wales Police has issued a warning over a new update made to Snapchat which allows people to see users' exact locations including house number and address. The photo and video sharing app has sparked concern after a new development which allows users to view exact locations, including directions on how to reach them.

The app opens a route to the user on Google maps, giving estimated travel time, street name and even the specific house number. South Wales Police have advised users to check their privacy and location settings within the app.

The social media giant had previously updated the app with a feature called Friend Check Up, aimed to reinforce that the platform was about communicating safely with people who matter most to users and disconnect from strangers who may expose them to negative experiences.

However, a new update has hit the platform causing concern with a new 'Meet Up' feature that enables users to view exact locations of other members on the platform.

The feature opens users' most recent registered address whilst using the app in Google maps, with details surrounding travel time for on foot and car. Thankfully the map can be turned off by turning on 'Ghost Mode' or turning off the 'precise location' button in phone settings.

Parents have also raised concern on other social media platforms surrounding the new update and have encouraged parents to be aware of the dangers.
