Police issue warning after van nicked and attempted car theft in one Wishaw street

Police have issued a warning following a van being nicked and the attempted theft of another within 24 hours in a Wishaw street.

Officers confirmed that a Ford Transit was stolen from outside a home in North Dryburgh Road in Coltness between 9pm on February 22 and 12.20am the following day.

Police in Wishaw are appealing for anyone who lives in the area and who saw anyone acting suspiciously or has CCTV footage to come forward.

On the same street, at around 8.20pm on February 22, a householder managed to stop his vehicle from being stolen.

At that time, the man was in his home when he heard a noise outside. He observed a man trying to steal his car.

Inspector Stevie Murray, from Wishaw Police Office, said: “When the householder challenged the male he answered in a foreign accent, got in a gold coloured vehicle and drove off.

“We are carrying out door-to-door enquiries in relation to these incidents and would appeal to any householder who has CCTV to look at it and see if they can see anything suspicious.

“I would reiterate to any householder to keep their vehicles and homes secure and making sure keys are kept well away from front and back doors.”

Anyone with information regarding these incidents should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
