Police have issued a warning for parents to be vigilant after thugs sellotaped razor blades to a slide in West Lancashire.
The blades were fastened to the slide at the Winifred Lane Play area in Aughton in a position that could have caused serious injury to children playing there.
Ormskrik and Burscough police wrote on Facebook: "Parents, please be aware that razor blades/knife blades have been attached to the side of the children's slide at the Winifred Lane Play area in Aughton this morning.
"We would ask everyone to be vigilant and check any play equipment before you let your child use it.
"If anyone has any information about this we'd urge them to contact us as soon as possible.
"Whoever did this could have caused serious injury to a child - please be assured we are fully investigating this matter."
People reacted with shock at seeing images of the blades posted online.
One wrote: "What a sick and twisted thing to think up!! Disturbing."
Another person posted online: "Seeing this has turned my stomach. This is psychopath behaviour IMO. Very disturbing . Police need to spend time on this case. Shocking."
Another person posted on Facebook: "When you think you can’t be shocked anymore and you read this! Catch them and throw away the key!"
