Officers say that, despite speculation on social media, the unknown strangers did not attempted to pull the children into the van.
It is believed the parents of the pupils later contacted Greater Manchester Police about the incident.
Officers said that ‘misinformation’ has since appeared online as schools in the area have been informed of what happened.
In a statement, the GMP Eccles, Cadishead, Barton & Irlam Facebook page said: “To clear up some misinformation going around on Facebook from one of the schools.
“On Thursday after school some pupils were approached near Eccles college and offered chocolates by 2 strangers in a van.
