Police issue warning after gun nut caught with firearms haul jailed for five years

Police have issued an urgent plea to the public to report guns after a man caught with eight firearms in Glasgow was put behind bars today.

Paul Duncan, 55 was caught with a self-loading pistol hidden in a sock and a self-loading pistol hidden in a sock when he was stopped in his Mazda 6 on Sauchiehall Street on August 21 last year.

Duncan's Erskine home was later searched by police the next day and a further seven firearms and ammunition were recovered.

Duncan was subsequently arrested and charged in connection and pleaded guilty to possessing the illegal weapons at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, 3 December 3, 2020.

He was jailed when he appeared for sentencing today.

Following Duncan’s prison sentence Detective Inspector Martin McGhee, of Police Scotland’s Specialist Crime Division said it was “absolutely vital” that members of the public keep police informed about firearms activity.

He said: "There is absolutely no place for illegal firearms in our communities and we will do everything we can to remove them and bring those responsible for such criminality before the courts.

“Intelligence from members of the public is absolutely vital in our work to protect communities and I would urge anyone who has information about the criminal use of firearms to get in touch.
