Police issue warning after drugs found hidden in chocolate pots

Police in Lancashire are asking people to "be vigilant" after pots of chocolate were found to contain a dangerous cannabinoid.

More than 20 pots – branded "Nudella" and "Budscoff" – were discovered in Blackpool in December.

Police said they "potentially contain[ed] extremely high levels of THC", a psychoactive drug thought to be responsible for the cannabis high, reports LancsLive.

It is just the latest of a number of batches of so-called "edibles" to be seized in the area.

Officers say these products "could potentially contain 50 times more THC than one joint of cannabis".

Police intercepted similar edibles hidden in baked goods and disguised as "Nerds Rope" sweets within the postal system last year.

Posting on Facebook, DC Catherine Lee said: “While there is no evidence at this stage to suggest these sweets would have been sold on, we are still asking people to be vigilant.

“We know these pots look fairly innocent, yet they potentially contain extremely high levels of THC. In particular, teenagers may think they look safe or ‘just a bit of fun’, but there have been reports in the national press of youngsters being hospitalised after taking sweets containing THC, and that is obviously a situation we want to avoid.

“We are now asking parents to talk to older children about them and to explain the risks, and are asking parents to be vigilant and look out for these edibles in their own home, as it would be easy for them to be missed.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
