Police issue warning after criminals target front door locks in series of burglaries

Police in Bury have issued a warning to residents following a series of burglaries.

Officers say criminals around the town have swiped car keys and stolen vehicles in a spate of incidents.

Homeowners have been warned to check the locks on their doors are up to the latest standards and not susceptible to being snapped.

In a post on Facebook an officer from GMP's Bury South team warned people to check that their lock is marked with the 'three star kite' symbol, which offer the most protection.

The post reads: "We are currently experiencing burglaries throughout the Bury area, some involve car keys and vehicles being stolen.
"In some instances the thieves are targeting door locks.

"We take the security of our door locks for granted, but local criminals can attack some door locks very easily without much skill, and in no time at all. It only takes them seconds."

Residents have been warned to check their doors to make sure they are locked.

Officers also advise keeping car keys out of sight inside homes, using steering wheel locks and parking in a garage where possible.
