Police issue update on Haverfordwest paddleboard tragedy woman left fighting for life

Police have issued an update on a paddleboarder seriously injured in the tragic incident in Haverfordwest last weekend.

Dyfed-Powys Police said on Friday (November 5) that a 41-year-old woman remains in hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

A spokeswoman said: "There has been no change to her condition currently."

Three people died after the tragedy on the River Cleddau on Saturday, October 30. The alarm was raised shortly after 9am, following reports of people in distress on the Cleddau River.

They were among nine adults from the south Wales area who had travelled to Pembrokeshire for a paddle-boarding excursion.

Toxicology expert Nicola Wheatley 40, from Pontarddulais, Swansea, died alongside Morgan Rogers, 24, from Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil.

Former soldier Paul O'Dwyer, aged 42 from Sandfields in Port Talbot was the first victim be named. His friends paid tribute to Mr O'Dwyer, a prolific charity fundraiser, who was said to have lost his life trying to rescue others in trouble.

Nicola was described as a "loving mother, daughter, daughter-in-law and wife" who was caring and considerate. Tributes to Nicola here.

Morgan, who was a deputy supermarket store manager, was described as "the best that she could be".

Thirty firefighters from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, including specialist wading crews and swift water rescue technicians, assisted with the rescue.

Two fire boats were launched to assist with bank and river searches, with crews working closely with the attending Coastguard teams.

Helicopter support was provided from NPAS, Coastguard and Wales Air Ambulance, and Angle RNLI lifeboat was also tasked.

Welsh Ambulance Service responded with several ambulances, taking the injured woman to Withybush Hospital.
